Matching And Mismatching Of Ram
Both these words have special significance in computer maintenance and trouble shooting. Mismatching causes many computer to fail while all devices are fine. This type of fault can be solved mainly by own experience and Trial& Error & method. It has no theory technology following are some specific errors that occur due to mismatch in the system.
(1) Some SD RAM works only in the selected motherboard, it is unable to work on all types of motherboard even if the bus speed of ram and motherboard is same.
(2) The bus logic of some motherboard works in such a way that SD RAM with any types of bus speed works. Especially VAI the green motherboard.
(3) Some display adapters do not work properly in win95 o/s and hang the system but work properly in win95 or above o/s. especially cirrus logic`s PCI to VAG cards.
(4) Some microprocessors do not work properly at their maximum speed, so if the processor speed is 233 or 300 MHZ then it should be lowered by the jumper setting or the CPU speed setting of the bios, it will start working fine. This problem occurs in AMD processors. The main reason for this is the lack of match between the processor and the motherboard.
(5) Some motherboard work fine on win95 o\s but become completely slow on win98 while some do the opposite.
(6) Agp card does not work properly in some motherboard.
(7) AMD and Cyrix processors do not work satisfactorily on every motherboard.
(8) If the ESS sound card does not match with the motherboard, the system hangs.
(9) Some of creative`s CD drives only works with the original CDs, can`t read CD written separately or at higher speeds.
(10) Some hard disk may not work or use their full potential with a particular motherboard, such as 8.4 GB HDD. Some PI may not work well with motherboards. This happens because of a miss match by the bios with that hard disk.
(11) Some DMP (dot matrix printers) may not be able to output properly on local developed software.
(12) The early Pentium motherboards were unable to support the later high speed PI processors.
(13) Some printer interface cables will print fine on one computer and fault on another system. This happens because of the resistance of the cable.
(14) Some hardware devices have builds that are well configure by win98 and work properly.
(15) Normally every motherboard gives a beep when RAM, display card, monitor is absent but some motherboards don`t give any beep when a device is absent. All peripherals are required to check such board.
(16) Motherboards of different brands will show different symptoms in the same type of error.
